How To Make A WordPress Blog Post (2022 Tutorial)

Hi guys in this Tutorial I’m going to show you how to build a simple WordPress blog. I’m going to be showing you how to add images social media and links to your videos on YouTube don’t forget to like and subscribe for future Tutorial.

Okay guys the first thing you need to do is click on posts and then click add new. Now type in a title for your blog post I’m going to simply call this one diywebsitespro. I’m going to copy double click copy and paste this as a header. To change this and make this section a heading section. We’re going to have to click on this button here and scroll down to where it says headings.

So select that and from here if we open the settings box we can change the size of the text from here. So we change that to four and as you can see the text is bigger. We can make it bolder and we’re going to add another paragraph here. As you can see it’s really easy to add a paragraph. So all we’re going to type into this box is learn how to make websites easy.

If you push return it gives you a new section. Just like that and in here we’re going to add an image. So we can do here is just either upload one from our media library. Like I am here and we can adjust the size by just dragging it in or we can just drag it out.

We can also align it into the centre or on to the right and again. We can just drag it over to the right hand side put it where we want it. We’ll just leave it there. We’ll add here now another paragraph. So we’re going to do is click on the plus button and select paragraph. As you can see it’s pushed it over to the left hand side next to the picture.

How to write a blog.

I’m going to move the image up a line. All I need to do here is click on the image and click on the arrow button pointing upwards underneath the image. The text I’m going to add a spacer. I can do this by clicking on the plus button on the top left hand side. Scrolling down the page and looking for spacer you can also type it in the search bar. The other way you can add a widget is by hovering underneath the section that you want to add it to.

Clicking on the plus button when it comes up and as you can see we’ve got spacer there. We can just drop it in to change the amount of space we’ve got in between our two sections. All we need to do is drag the arrow up and down. I’m not going to add much of a space here. Now I can come back and change this later just by clicking on the box and dragging it down.

Again what I’m going to add now is our YouTube link all I need to do to add that is click on the blue plus key on the top left hand side. This time I’m going to use the search feature to find the YouTube widget. So if i type in YouTube you can see it’s popped up there. If I give that a click I can now right click and paste in my YouTube URL. All that’s left to do is click the embed button and you’ll get a preview of your video.

Once it’s loaded next I’m going to go and add some social media icons to the bottom of the post here. So what I’m going to do first though is show you all the different widgets you can get on WordPress. Like before I’m going to click on the black plus button and this time I’m going to scroll down a little bit and click on it again. Click on browse all and as you can see this is everything you’ve got. So you got text media design widgets theme and at the very bottom embeds.

So as you can see there is absolutely loads you got RSS feeds, twitter account links, stuff like that. So there’s a lot you can add all you need to do is select the one you want and it’ll automatically set it at the bottom of the page. Like I said earlier all I’m going to do now is click on the social media icons. So if I click on that and click on the plus key click on it again and I can start adding which social media platforms.

I want to link to so if I click browse all you can see there is literally every single type of social media you can possibly add on here. So if I click on YouTube, twitter, go on snapchat scroll up to Instagram, Facebook I can click on those now. You can see they’re added to the page. You will need to click on the icon and add your profile URL.

Once you have all you need to do is click on apply I’m going to select a link to my YouTube channel now. So if I select the icon click on the URL paste it in and click apply. Only those social media icons that you have added your link to will be displayed on the final page. Like all the other widgets you can centre align them into the middle of the page. All you need to do is click on the box and click on the little icon. Just here and click centre align.

What I’m going to do now is add a bit more space in between the picture and the video. So if I go back to our spacer and drag it down. If you wanted to mix things up and add some custom coding. All you need to do is click on the plus key at the top here and scroll down where we go for code. There You can start writing in this box all your custom coding.

To remove it all you need to do is click on the three little dots and scroll to the bottom where it says remove code.

What I think I’ll do here is add a button. So if I scroll down can I see it probably passed it already so what I’ll end up doing is clicking on the plus key just here so hang on so if i click on the plus key here type in button into the search. I can select the button you can choose where it sits on the page by selecting here.

You can go wide width you can see it goes to the edge or you can select on there again and do centre. Where we full width there you go pushes it out even more. If we select here into the middle again and click back on it we can centre it into the middle of the page. If you wanted to make this button linked to a sign up page. So we can change the text we can say sign up here and if we wanted to change the colour of the background or the text.

All we need to do is click on the three dots then select show more settings as you can see on the right hand side. We can change our colours and sizes if we click on outline. we’ll just get the outline of the box we can fill it again just by clicking here. We can also change other stuff like setting our default style. If we want to change the colour of our text all we need to do is click on colour.

Select text and what you’ll see is a colour picker and we’ll just change the text to red we can change it to white. Again if we want to change the colour of the background. We just change it to black or we can change it back to what it was to add the URL to the button where we want to divert to. All we need to do is select the button and all we’re going to have to click on is the little link icon in the middle of the page.

So if we click on that and we can type in our URL here on where we want our visitors to be directed to. If it’s a page on our website then all we need to do is start typing in the name of that page and as you can see there it’s given us the option of sending people to the hello world post. All you need to do is select it. I always like to have these pages open in a new tab. That’s all I’m going to probably add to this post.

But what I will do for the rest of the Tutorial is show you around the post page. If we click on post and scroll down the page we can see we can change things like tabs feature images and type in an excerpt for our blog post. Now if we click on the three dots on the top right hand side of the page we can change our view modes swap between visual and code editor. And we can manage our blocks and shortcuts along the top of the page the blue plus button manages our widgets.

We can change our post and select see how many characters are on our page. We can see our widgets in order. There is also an undo button and a redo button. I’ll also show you now how to publish a post. If we click on the publish button and click on visibility we can see we can change it to public private or password protected. Underneath that we can select whether we want to post immediately or whether we want to set a time and a date.

Our post is published on all that’s left to do is click publish at the top and at the bottom left hand side, we can see we can view our post. If we scroll to the bottom of the page we can see we’ve got a comments box where people can reply to our post. If at a later date we want to change something on our post all we need to do is click on edit post in the top of our page. As you can see it loads our page editor again.

What I’m going to do now is show you our post on our home page so I’m going to click on the WordPress icon on the left hand side here and load our dashboard. If I click on the name and click visit page you can see there’s our post at the top and if we click on the title it will load our blog post to add an image to our home page. We will need to add a featured image to our blog post. So if we go back into the editor and click on the settings button on the top right.

If we go over to posts we can scroll down to the bottom and select a featured image. This image will be displayed on our home page. Always remember to update your changes by clicking the update button on the top right hand side. Now if we go back into our WordPress dashboard and select our visit page we should see there our featured image. I think I’ll leave it there for this Tutorial.
